Spanish Worship

We have the blessing of being a part of a very loving English-language church who has welcomed us into their midst with open arms. However, Spanish worship is a need if we are to reach out to Hispanics. Regardless of how much English a Hispanic person may be able to speak, there is nothing like praising God in your mother tongue! Language and culture cannot be separated, and to truly and honestly worship God, you have to give expression to your worship in a way that is meaningful to you. That means that our Hispanic members worship our Lord a little differently from our Anglo members—hey, after all, Jesus, as a Jew, did not worship like any of us worship.

Anyone is welcome to join us one Sunday for a different kind of worship experience. We meet in the Worship Center of the First Baptist Ministries Center. This is our schedule:

Sunday

9:30 AM    Adult Sunday School in Spanish(children’s classes are available in English and Spanish)

10:45 AM   Praise & Worship, and Preaching of the Word

6:00 PM    Praise & Worship, and Evening Bible Study

Discipleship

As the Lord commanded us in Matthew 28:19, “…go and make disciples of all nations…”, we work to make of every new believer a true disciple of our Lord. In order to accomplish that, every person that makes a profession of faith is encouraged to learn what it means to be a born-again Christian by following a simple, basic discipleship course titled “Creciendo en Cristo” (“Growing in Christ”).

Once the person has completed this course we encourage him/her to continue growing spiritually by following with other discipleship courses, such as “Sígueme, 1 and 2” (“Survival Kit, 1 and 2”), “Mi Experiencia con Dios” (“Experiencing God”), and others.

Most of these discipleship studies are done on an individual basis, each person working on their own. Every week we meet, be it one-or-one or in groups, to discuss what has been learned and to answer questions that may arise during the week.

We have already seen the results of this approach, in that new believers gain an understanding that this new Christian life is more than coming to church on Sundays—it is having a personal, daily relationship with their Lord and Savior—and that the goal of this life is to please Him and serve Him with all your being. Guiding new believers through these discipleship courses helps them to be grounded in the Word from the very beginning of their new lives in Christ. It helps them feel secure in what they have believed, more willing to witness to others, and to grow spiritually in a steady fashion. It allows us to get to know them personally and allows them to get to know us as members of the family of God.

Other Opportunities

We continually encourage our members to be consistent in their personal Bible study and also to get involved in doing evangelism by sharing what they learn. We also encourage them to start their own informal Bible studies at the workplace or at home with their friends and relatives. Several of our members offer home Bible studies from time to time where they welcome co-workers and friends who are curious about Christian beliefs into their homes and engage them in the study of the Scriptures.
