Wanted Volunteers
- Basic Computer Skills Instructor—This is our new
community ministry, which will involve teaching basic computer skills to
adults who have no knowledge or experience in the use of computers.
Instructors must be capable of explaining and demonstrating basic computer
concepts (use of keyboard and mouse, Windows commands, creating documents
and files, word processing, etc.) and basic use of internet (researching
information, email, downloading files, etc). You do not need to be a
computer wiz to help! Classes will be offered in the evening. However, if
you are interested in volunteering at any other time we can set you up with
students at almost any hour. If you are interested in helping please call
our church office at 247-2929.
- Tutors—The tutoring program is seeking to expand
to help more children, Hispanic and non-Hispanic, who may need assistance
with homework or basic skills. Our program is open to children in grades 1
to 6; they bring their own books and materials. You do not have to be a
trained teacher to help, but you must love children and be willing to invest
of your time to help them overcome their limitations. Volunteers are asked
to donate one (1) hour a week, either on Tuesday or Thursday, from 3:30 to
4:30 PM. However, we promise not to turn down anyone who wishes to volunteer
for more hours! Even though at this time dates have not been set, our
program should begin at the end of August and run through the first two
weeks in December, with the school year. For more information please contact
Frances Irizarry at the FBC Ministries Building office at 247-2929.
- ESL Teachers—After a short break, we are starting
our ESL classes back this fall. Almost anyone who speaks English—even
Kentuckian English—can help. No Spanish required. A short basic training is
available for new volunteers and for those who have taught but have not
taken the training before. Classes are offered Tuesday and Thursday night
from 6:30 to 7:30 PM; each session runs for 10 weeks. We ask that our
volunteers commit to at least one hour a week; however, anyone willing to
commit for two hours a week will not be turned away! Books and materials are
provided. This is one of our most successful ministries in reaching out to
the Hispanic community. For more information please contact Frances Irizarry
at the FBC Ministries Building office at 247-2929.

a willingness to learn. Team members are asked to serve once every four weeks
with their designated team. We are also establishing a pool of alternates who
will be asked to serve if a regular team member cannot serve on his or her
scheduled Sunday.
- Camera Operator—3 camera people are needed each Sunday
with up to 2 alternates
- Soundboard Operator—1 person for sanctuary sound and 1
person for TV sound each week
- Character Generator—1 person each week is responsible
for displaying titles and names on videotaped services
- Multimedia Operator—1 person is responsible for
displaying song lyrics and the sermon outline in the sanctuary during the
church service
Please call the church
office or appropriate minister if you would like to be involved in one of these
ministries.
